Recovery is important
After so many heavy weeks of training, we finally got a easy week. In triathlon, training is usually based on the concept of periodization, where you little by little build to a certain level. Volume/intensity increases. The problem comes that eventually the body needs a break, in order to not actually “break.”
So a training block usually is composed of 3 weeks, where you are constantly building up your fitness to certain goal. On the 4th week, you unload the training and take it more easy. This doesn’t mean you stop training, but it simply you decrease the volume and rest more. This week is important so the body can recuperate from the 3 previous weeks of hard work and it gets ready to tackle the upcoming training block So certainly after the past weeks, a recovery week was very welcome.
So this week I was relaxing a bit more and have a lot more rest days. My rib was still hurting, but finally on Friday I could swim a little. I believe I should be fully recovered by next week.
Talking about next week.... I’m very excited for it!. Ironman 70.3 Florida is coming up and it would be my only test to see how I’m preparing for Ironman Texas. I have done a total of 3 half-ironmans to this point, and I feel that I have been the best prepared for this one than the others. The strategies have changed too, and surprisingly enough I’m calm and not forcing myself into doing a certain time on the race. Ideally I would like to break 5:30, but if I don’t break that number it would be ok :) . So yes, next week is RACE WEEK!!! YAY!
