There’s been an awakening, have you felt it?
Star Wars Half Marathon - The Dark Side
This week was an interesting one. After Ironman 70.3 Florida I had to refocus the nutrition and figure out what went wrong. With the help of my nutritionist, we reworked some stuff in order to start nailing the nutrition.
Surprisingly enough, this week I had ANOTHER race. But this one was more something for FUN! I mean, is doing a half marathon for fun only, actually fun? If you take it easy and forget about times or pressure of doing good, YES! So on Sunday I had scheduled the “Inaugural Disney’s Star Wars Half Marathon – The Dark Side”, so yes I was heading to Walt Disney World on the weekend… (OMG!!! I'M GOING TO DISNEY, YAY!!!)
So I had to swap days of training and did my 5 hours brick on Friday (being unemployed does have its advantages). At 11 am, and barely alive, Bernie tells me that they are heading now to Orlando and if I wanted for him to pick me up. I said yes and rush to my house, did a T3 (transition 3), and afterwards we were heading to Orlando! (while I died on his van!)
Later that day we went to packet pick up and had a delicious dinner in Downtown Disney and on Saturday we decided to go to Hollywood Studios. Everything… I mean EVERYTHING was Star Wars, Bernie, Kimphasma, and myself were literally in paradise. As you may assume we are big Star Wars fans hehe :) . We saw stormtroppers everywhere, we went to the new revamped Star Tours TWICE, Rock n’ Roller coaster, the Tower Of Terror, Star Wars Launch Bay, Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, Star Wars: Path of the Jedi, and Star Wars: In a Galaxy far far away. Too bad we couldn’t stay until the evening to see the fireworks!!! Unfortunately we needed to wake up really early on Sunday.
Early wake up call on Sunday and we headed for the buses. Arrived to Epcot Center and took care of some business (went to the restrooms). Walked to the start line and it was amazing. Every wave of runners would be welcome with fireworks and some “Darkside” music. Bernie, Kimphasma and myself decided to run together the whole race, just to have a great time.
Every mile marker was themed with a different character, and along the way there were a lot of familiar faces from a galaxy far, far away. People would make a line to take photos with the characters, and we did if we saw that the lines weren’t that big. The weather was good and we had a BLAST!.
The course would go inside Epcot center, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and finalize in ESPN’s Wide World of Sports. At the end they gave us the ‘Most Powerful Medal in the Galaxy”, a medal with the face of my idol Darth Vader!!!. Post refreshments, the iconic characters from the Dark Side of the Force would wait for you to take photos. I was soooo exicted to take a photo with the Dark Lord of the Sith!!!!
Surprisingly enough this was a good break from Ironman of training. It’s been a while since I have been to a theme park, and... IT WAS THE BEST WEEKEND EVAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
