Road to the first triathlon of the season.
This week was an interesting one, since on Sunday where I usually have the BIG training day of 5 – 6 hours, I have a race that can be done in 1 hour. Although our coach sent a plan to taper for the race, I decided to still do my regular scheduled Ironman training until Saturday, and on Sunday just do the race.
The week of training I had one of the toughest workout I have ever done at the track. On Wednesday I had an exhausting workout of 30x 400m, probably the longest workout I have ever had a the track to date. Definitely something to test not only your endurance but your mind and patience. I felt like a guinea pig going around the track 30 times! But amazingly I did it. I bet these workouts are nothing compared to what’s coming up.
On Friday I had my first OWS (open water swim) session in the year. It was good to test actual sea water before Las Olas Triathlon, plus swimming with the wetsuit. Surprisingly enough I felt good in the wetsuit. I usually have problems swimming in the wetsuit and I always feel that instead of going fast, I go slower with the wetsuit. I think a big difference is that I have lost some weight, so maybe I'm not so tight inside the wetsuit? hahaha... Hey! I dont know for sure, but at least for me it feels that way!
This week also marks that in one month I have a big prep race in Ironman 70.3 Florida and we are 2 months away from the biggie Ironman Texas. Oh boy, time is flying!!!
As usual I’ll post the race report from the first triathlon of the season in another post!
