I got to say last week was FUN. Not because of the training, but because of the company. So my group of friends decided to escape from Miami for a weekend and go train in Clermont FL (which is close to Orlando). So this officially became the 1st Darkside Miami Training Camp, and man! It was so much fun.

So we decided to go on Friday, together with my friend Gatinha we decided to leave the earliest to avoid Miami’s traffic, which was a great idea. Other soon followed in different cars. We decided to rent a big house with lots of space for everyone to stay comfortable. The training was made by Tomasito, which is the current USAT National Champion, and stated that we will enjoy of a long ride on Saturday through the rolling hills of Clermont and hitting the infamous Buckhill and Sugarloaf Mountain. Then after our bike we followed by 30 to 60 min run. On Sunday we will do a long run on the 10 Mile Clay Loop and we will swim in National Training Center afterwards. Friday when finally everyone got there was full of laughs and high energy to tackle the weekend!

11pm, finally everyone at the house!

Saturday. Wakeup call 5:30am.  Little by little the house was filled with noise and then thunderous noise, laughter and Coco’s smoothie’s blender. Morning ritual to everyone… breakfast! We were planning to start 7am but until everyone got ready, packed up the bikes and then Bernie’s locking his car, we ended up starting at 7:50 am.

Sugarloaf Mountain... Conquered!

So off we went for an easy and really enjoyable ride. A beautiful day with excellent weather, rolling hills, the most amazing support vehicle (thank you blondies), and working hard on the Buckhill and Sugarloaf Mountains! Which we conquered! After the amazing ride the needed to run. I was impressed that although the ride was heavy on the legs, I kept my heart on the easy zone which it help afterwards on the run, where I felt fresh… I guess this is the sensation I need to have on long distance training. Everything in Zone 2!

Buckhill!

The run was nice, along a lake and then going through some suburbs. The path was not flat at all, full of curves, shade and (more) rolling hills. Felt amazing! We ended out training late, around lunch time and everyone was starving. We decided to grab some subs and call it a day. Afternoon nap time, then we had dinner and some of us escaped to hangout in Pleasure Island and grab Girardelli’s ice cream. Day 1 a success!!!

Sunday another early wake up call full with noise and little sleep from the ones we went out last night (so yeah, really sleepy). We headed for the 10 Mile Clay Loop to do our long run, which was incredible. It was just you and nature, along side some cows munching and birds singing. They clay road was soft, not flat at all and make you work hard on those rollers. I did a fartlek which I enjoyed a lot because of the scenery. Afterwards we hit the pool at the NTC (National Training Center), I was impressed to see local Pro’s in the pool. An hour swim but I started to feel the fatigue of the late nights and hunger at the end of the sets.

Nevertheless it was a beautiful day (and an amazing pool) for training but it was time for us to prepare to go back to Miami. So we went back to the house, clean up, went for lunch and then head back to Miami. For sure it was a spectacular weekend. We are planning a second one but this time to grab a long Holiday in order to make it 3 days… so little time to enjoy!

Tired, so tired at the end :)
